Happy May, everyone!
Later this month will be the Annual Budget Vote at the Stuart M. Townsend Elementary School, and with it the Library Board election! The vote will be May 19th, 12pm to 8pm at the LGI in the Stuart M. Townsend elementary school. There is one open library board seat this year, and there is one candidate running! We would like to introduce you to the candidate this year: Christine Wittrock.

My name is Christine (Chris) Wittrock, and I decided to run for a trustee position because I see the critical role our library plays in our community. When my husband and I moved to Lake Luzerne in June 2024, we immediately visited the library to obtain library cards, and I joined the Book Club. We have now experienced two winters here in Lake Luzerne, and as a newcomer, I am forever grateful for the human connection the library provides throughout the long, cold, winter. I observed people of all ages and backgrounds enjoying multiple activities, special programing and meet-ups, and sustaining nutrition through the farm to table Thursdays.
I am a retired regulatory specialist in the pharmaceutical industry and Adjunct Professor from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. After 30+ years of interactions in a multi-cultural environment, I learned that listening fully and completely to others and remaining curious are ways to develop and maintain respectful relationships. I presently spend my time supporting our new business, Adirondack Mom n Pop Shop, which offers products inspired by both our mountain life and traditional folk embroidery, and volunteering on the Planning Committee at the Adirondack Folk School. You may also see me as a vendor at any number of local craft fairs where I will sell my embroidery. Mostly, I love being with people, learning about this beautiful area, and sharing my passion for art and the environment.
I recognize there will be a learning curve if elected, but the strengths that I bring to the position are the skills of listening, collaboration, administration, instruction, and communication. My intentions are to serve alongside the other elected members of the board and library staff with mutual respect as we continue to honor the diverse needs and preferences of our community, to bring resources and opportunities for lifelong learning, and to foster a safe and welcoming environment for all. For these reasons, I would be honored to serve our community.
Even though there is just one candidate, we still hope the community turns out and votes. Be sure to get out and vote May 19th!
